Plain-Language Summary
Version 2.0 · Effective September 27, 2026 · Aerodyne Inc. d/b/a Terrestream
This page sums up our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy in plain language. It's a guide, not the contract: if anything here differs from them, they control.
1. The sensor isn't a life-safety device
- The Terrestream℠ sensor measures indoor air for awareness and comfort. It doesn't detect smoke, fire, carbon monoxide (CO), radon or gas leaks, and it can't call 911. (Terms §0.3, §4)
- It measures carbon dioxide (CO₂), not carbon monoxide. This sensor doesn't detect carbon monoxide — keep your CO alarms. Keep the smoke and CO alarms your home and local codes require, and test them. (Terms §4.3, §4.5)
- In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number, not Terrestream support. (Terms §4.6, §22.3)
- In supported setup flows, before you add a sensor to your account, the apps ask you to confirm these points on one screen. (Terms §4.7)
2. How you agree
You agree to the Terms when you create an account (by ticking a box confirming that you agree and that you're 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that's higher; an eligible invited minor instead uses the separate guardian-consent path subject to the conditions in Terms §2.2 and §8.8), buy from terrestream.com (by ticking a box before you pay), tap Accept & Continue on a sensor's welcome screen, or accept an updated version. (Terms §0.4, §2.2)
3. How the sensor connects
- Standalone. Without Wi-Fi, the screen shows current readings and nothing is sent over the internet. It needs no account and is free for the life of the sensor.
- Connected. On Wi-Fi, the sensor sends readings to our cloud about every 15 seconds, which powers the apps, alerts and history. Cloud upload is on by default, and firmware updates install automatically.
- Local-only (firmware 4.1.0 or later). You can turn cloud upload off from a paired Home Assistant. The sensor still checks with us for firmware updates, and a factory reset turns cloud upload back on.
- You can also send readings to your own MQTT broker or Home Assistant over your local network. (Terms §9.1, §15.1; Privacy §2.3)
4. Readings, scores and suggestions
- Recommendations are estimates. Scores, insights and suggestions come from rules and models applied to your readings and outdoor data, and they can be wrong. (Terms §5.1)
- Suggestions, such as airing out a room or considering keeping windows closed when an outdoor forecast shows poor air, are yours to weigh. They aren't instructions. During wildfire smoke or other outdoor events, follow official advisories. (Terms §5.3)
- A "Good" reading doesn't rule out hazards the sensor can't detect. Symptoms, odors, visible smoke, official advisories and your alarms come first. Sensors also drift and can fail without warning, so we recommend comparing yours with a known reference from time to time. (Terms §5.7, §6)
- The sensor is consumer-grade. Its data isn't professional advice, or evidence for medical, legal, regulatory or real-estate decisions without professional validation. We recommend asking a qualified professional before a significant health, remediation, HVAC or compliance decision. (Terms §5.4–§5.5, §6.4)
5. Plans, Pro and payments
- Free plan: the apps, alerts, 90 days of history, Family Circle and local integrations, at no charge. Privacy requests and account deletion are free on every plan. (Terms §8.1)
- Pro is not offered for new purchases at this time. Existing subscriptions keep their applicable terms; any future offer must show its price, trial and renewal conditions before purchase. (Terms §8.2)
- To cancel Pro, open Manage billing in the web dashboard, which takes you to the secure Stripe billing page, or ask Customer Support. Cancel during the trial and you pay nothing; cancel later and Pro lasts until the end of the period you've paid for. (Terms §8.2)
- Paying: through Stripe using the payment methods actually displayed at checkout; a chosen payment partner’s terms apply. Prices show in US dollars, Canadian dollars or Mexican pesos according to the selected or estimated country. (Terms §8.3)
- When a sensor model reaches end of life, cloud features stop and the sensor keeps working as a standalone display. (Terms §8.4)
6. Returns and warranty
- 30-day returns for sensors bought at terrestream.com, for any reason, even if you've opened and used it, with everything that came in the box. You pay return shipping. There's no restocking fee on your first return; later returns of opened, non-defective sensors may carry a fee of up to 15% where the law allows. (Terms §8.5)
- Dead on arrival. If a sensor doesn't power on or pass its self-test within 14 days after delivery, we replace it free.
- One-year limited warranty. We repair or replace a sensor with a defect in materials or workmanship. Drift, normal wear, accidents and misuse aren't covered, and using other parts or repair services doesn't by itself void it. (Terms §10; Limited Warranty)
7. Family Circle
- Share a home with up to six people, including you, on any plan. Each person you invite gets an email explaining what members can see and how to leave, and must accept personally. (Terms §8.8)
- Members see the home's rooms, readings, alerts and insights, and who else is in the Family Circle, but not your billing. Only owners and co-owners see the home's coordinates and separate presence and routine insight views. All members see air-quality alerts and their detailed evidence, including possible cooking, cleaning and presence. Optional household pattern analysis. Occupancy and recurring-routine analysis are enabled by default outside Quebec. In Quebec, or if we cannot determine the home’s applicable region, they remain off until an owner or co-owner explicitly activates them. An owner or co-owner can turn these two functions on or off in the web dashboard. An enabled default is not a record of affirmative consent. This choice does not turn off environmental readings, air-quality alerts or their detailed activity/source evidence, which remain available to all household members as described here. Turning the functions off does not by itself delete retained readings; account and retention controls remain available.
- Where invited-minor enrollment is available, ages 13–17 (14–17 in Quebec) may join only through an invitation with recorded guardian confirmation and their own acceptance; this does not replace legally required guardian consent. Younger children cannot join.
- Members can leave at any time, and the owner or a co-owner can remove anyone. Don't use Family Circle to monitor anyone without their knowledge.
8. Your privacy
- What we collect: account details; homes, rooms and settings; sensor readings and device information; a home location if you add one; orders; and what you send us. What we don't: medical or wearable-health records, audio, images or video. Environmental inferences can concern apparent sleep and routines, without medical findings; the service does not receive sensor audio/video, and the apps contain no advertising or analytics software. (Privacy §2)
- Location: optional. We store it rounded to about 1 km, and only owners and co-owners see it. Weather and air-quality providers get only the centre of a grid square 11 to 55 km wide. We may set your home's time zone from an IP-based estimate made on our own servers. (Privacy §2.4)
- Household estimates: our software estimates things like whether a room seems occupied, your home's routine, whether someone seems asleep or away, and activities such as cooking. They're estimates, not facts. The separate presence and routine insight views are limited to owners and co-owners; air-quality alerts and detailed evidence remain visible to all members. We never use these estimates for advertising or decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. (Privacy §2.5)
- Our website: optional analytics and ad measurement stay off until you turn them on with the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page, and a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal turns them off. Our server also logs each page view with the approximate location, organization and internet provider linked to your IP address, but not the address itself, and keeps the log for 13 months. (Privacy §4)
- Sharing: with service providers that run Terrestream for us under contract (sub-processor list), with Meta, Reddit and Pinterest only if you opt in on our website, and with services you connect, such as Home Assistant. We do not exchange personal information for money; optional advertising disclosures may also constitute a sale under California law. We process it primarily in the United States; some providers, such as Proton in Switzerland and Cloudflare on its global network, process it elsewhere. (Privacy §5, §6)
- How long: reading history is kept for 90 days on the Free plan, and for as long as you have Pro. If Pro ends, you see the last 90 days, and we keep older history in case you return. (Privacy §7.1)
- Weekly briefs: the stored copy and link expire three calendar months after creation; the next daily cleanup erases content and link hash. A minimal home/week delivery marker stays until home deletion to prevent duplicate sending. Copies in your email remain.
- Deleting your account: the apps or web dashboard offer a data copy before confirmation, then end your access and sessions immediately. Private data is erased under Privacy §7.2; shared household records and rules can remain for other members, with creator identity removed where applicable. Required proof/legal records remain, and billing or final-delivery cleanup may require retries. After 24 months without sign-in or readings from your currently owned sensors, we may delete the account following a full 60-day email notice; resumed activity prevents deletion under the old notice. (Privacy §7.2–§7.3)
- Your rights: ask to access, get a copy of, correct or delete your information at terrestream.com/privacy/data, with or without an account. Requests are free, including two access requests in any 12 months. (Privacy §8)
- Security: we encrypt information in transit, store passwords only as hashes and offer two-step verification on every account. No system is completely secure. (Privacy §13)
- Mexico: our Spanish privacy notice explains your rights under Mexican law. (Privacy §11)
9. What we ask of you
- Connect the sensor only to Wi-Fi protected by WPA2 or WPA3 with a non-default password. Use a strong password you don't use elsewhere, and turn on two-step verification. (Terms §13.1–§13.2)
- Don't use the sensor in place of a smoke or CO alarm, or to control anything safety-critical, such as gas valves, locks or medical equipment. (Terms §9.4, §14)
- We recommend telling the people who live in or visit your home about the sensor. Our in-home notice has wording you can use. (Terms §13.5)
10. If we have a dispute
- Written-warranty claims are exempt from mandatory negotiation and arbitration; you may take them to a court with jurisdiction. For other covered disputes, tell us first, in writing, and we'll both try for 30 days to resolve it. If that doesn't work, disputes go to binding individual arbitration with the American Arbitration Association, not to court. There's no jury and no class or mass actions, but small-claims court is still available. (Terms §19)
- You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days after first activating a sensor or creating an account, whichever is earlier; if you already had an account or sensor before this version, you also get 30 days after first accepting this version. Send your opt-out at terrestream.com/contact?dept=arbitration or by mail. (Terms §19.9)
- Consumers in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Mexico aren't bound by arbitration or the class-action waiver. (Terms §19.11)
- Our liability is limited, except where the law doesn't allow it, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. (Terms §11)
11. When these documents change
- For a material change, we give at least 30 days' notice by email and in the apps, and then ask you to accept the new version before you keep using connected features. Until you accept, you can still download your data, see your privacy settings, manage or cancel billing and delete your account, and your sensor keeps sending readings. (Terms §20.5, Privacy §15)
- If you live in Quebec and a change affects an essential element of your contract, you can end the contract without penalty until 30 days after the change takes effect. Past versions are at terrestream.com/legal/archive.
12. Businesses and other organizations
If you use Terrestream in a commercial, institutional, educational, health-care or multi-tenant setting, or order through Terrestream Facilities, our Commercial Addendum also applies. It makes some of our recommendations requirements and contains the terms for Facilities text-message alerts. (Terms §7)
Facilities annual monitoring for new offers is US$49 per commissioned sensor; existing accepted terms remain unchanged. If a customer makes no return/deletion election, organization data is deleted from active systems after 90 days from the contractual end date, with or without a DPA, subject to required retention and legal holds. After verified delivery of an elected return, the active copy is deleted by the same 90-day deadline; an undelivered return is escalated rather than erasing the only undelivered copy.
